If you find yourself in a reduced traction situation such as deep water, oil, ice, or snow you should take the following steps. Do not make any quick changes in speed or direction. Gradually take your foot off the gas pedal, and if possible, shift to neutral.

Keep the steering wheel straight and if you have to use your brakes, push them to the friction point and hold. If the vehicle starts to skid, stay off the brakes. This will only lock the wheels and make the skid worse. Quickly turn the steering wheel in the direction you want the car to go. As soon as the vehicle begins to straighten out, countersteer back the other way Continue to correct your steering and once under control, gradually begin to accelerate.
