| Working in the
construction industry places great stress on workers' spines; especially
if they're not utilizing proper body mechanics to perform their work
duties. This comprehensive " Back to Fitness " training video
has been designed by a leading industrial back safety expert, Dr. Richard
Bunch. Many days were spent at building sites, road jobs, and maintenance
shops analyzing and videotaping the ergonomic positions required by
personnel to perform daily operational tasks (i.e. lifting materials,
using jackhammers, shoveling and raking, operation heavy equipment,
and turning wrenches.) This dynamic video demonstrates the safe working
postures and strengthening exercises that your employees must use in
order to help eliminate lost time, injuries, and costly litigation.
The statistics are staggering! Each work-related
back injury costs an average of $6,800-$8,000. This year, companies
like yours will spend over 70 billion dollars on back injuries. 11%
of your work force will suffer some form of low back impairment this
year. 50% of back injuries are caused by lifting. The most common
group developing back injuries are men, age 25-34. Most injuries occur
within the first second of the lift, and 83% occur with the worker's
back in a bowed out position.
Your best line of defense is training,
and through the use of the "Back to Fitness" program, an
80% success rate of lowering back injuries in employees has been achieved!

The first part
of this two part video begins by explaining the workings of the spine
and discs, and how employees can change their daily work and leisure
habits to what is one of the most abused parts of our bodies. Dr. Bunch
emphasizes that the most serious back injuries do not occur from a single
jarring incident, but from a lifelong abuse of the spine through improper
sitting and lifting practices. Practical exercise routines that can
be performed both on and off the job are demonstrated in order to strengthen
and stretch muscles and ligaments which help support the spine.
Part Two takes place on actual construction sites where Dr. Bunch analyzes
the stressful positions in which laborers, mechanics, and operators
work. These workers are then shown performing their jobs in the most
ergonomically correct position, as Dr. Bunch explains the principles
of lumbar stabilization, keeping the back locked in the neutral position,
transferring upper body weight, and using back bends to relieve disc
pressure immediately after any job. It's the type of information your
employees will readily identify with and put into daily practice!
Each program comes with a illustrated manual and test questions. |

NARRATION
FOR BACK SAFETY FOR CONSTRUCTION
Safety for employees in the Construction Industry is a number one
concern. This dynamic "Back To Fitness" back injury prevention
program is being provided to you in order that you may perform your
job in the safest manner possible.
However, like most safety practices, keeping your back well conditioned
and free from injury can only be accomplished by one person, and that
person is you. Before beginning any job, think about how you can utilize
the principles presented in this program to work smart, and if you
require help when lifting or moving a heavy object get it.
We also want you to remember that most back injuries do not result
from a single jarring accident, but stem from poor conditioning and
a life-long practice of improper work and leisure habits. We encourage
you to take responsibility for your own health by getting into good
physical condition, and eliminating hazards such as smoking and stress.
This "Back to Fitness" program has been developed and utilized
both in the clinic and at the work site by one of the leading physical
therapists in the nation, Dr. Richard Bunch. Dr. Bunch has a unique
background having attended undergraduate training at West Point Military
Academy, and obtaining a degree in physical therapy and a doctorate
in anatomy from Louisiana State University. He has practiced physical
therapy for the last 16 years, specializing in the prevention, evaluation,
and treatment of back and neck disorders. He is currently president
of the Industrial Safety and Rehabilitation Institute and associate
professor at LSU Medical Center.

1.
INTRO FOR FRONT END LOADER
Operating heavy equipment for hours on end, especially if seated in
improper positions, can repeatedly jerk and stress the spine and neck.
Dr. Bunch demonstrates the correct seating postures and relief techniques
you should utilize in order to minimize damage to your spine.
2. SECTION ON DRILLING OVERHEAD OR WORKING OVER
HEAD ENDING WITH DR. BUNCH IN CHERRY PICKER
When working or looking overhead for a long period of time you can put
a lot of stress and strain on the facet joints in the neck and on your
shoulders. Every so often you should relieve that strain by bringing
your head down and moving your shoulders around to increase the circulation
in the area.
3. DR. BUNCH SITTING BY JACK'S HOUSE WITH BACK BOWED OUT
Whether sitting in a cab of an excavator or just sitting at home watching
TV its vital to utilize a proper sitting posture.

4.
DR. BUNCH WITH JACK HAMMER
The key to keeping your back in good health is to utilize Dr. Bunch's
concept of lumbar stabilization on every job, even if its a task as
strenuous as working with a Jack Hammer.
5. DR. BUNCH DEMONSTRATING THE USE OF SHOVEL
Even a routine job such as shoveling requires careful consideration
in order to prevent twisting your back and increasing pressure in the
discs while repeatedly handling load after load.
6. WORKER HANDLING ASPHALT WITH RAKE
Often we have to perform jobs that, by their very nature, may put us
in a work position that bows our backs out. Dr. Bunch explains what
to do when we find ourselves in this situation.
