"Cylinders" is a 29-minute video or DVD with accompanying text that manufacturers, organizations, fire departments, hazmat teams, and other emergency personnel about proper use of compressed gas cylinders as well as response procedures to incidents. Copyright 2002

Cylinders are containers designed to store and transport compressed gases. Nitrogen, oxygen, propane and helium are just a few examples of gases that are stored and transported in cylinders. Cylinders come in various sizes and have valves and other fittings that are used to receive and deliver the gas. Problems may arise when cylinders or their fittings are damaged from overuse, misuse or accidents. Facilities which have cylinders on the premises must understand proper use of these vessels and be prepared to respond to an emergency involving either cylinders or the gases inside.
About the program
"Cylinders" provides information for emergency responders and industry personnel who work with or who may respond to emergencies involving compressed gas cylinders. It describes the various types of cylinders and examines features including valves and pressure release devices. The program covers the markings and labels that are required to be on each vessel, and discusses the standards cylinders must meet.

Safety procedures to minimize accidents during loading and unloading operations are covered thoroughly, and suggestions for avoiding common accidents are offered. Requirements for storage of full and empty cylinders are outlined. For emergency response situations, information is provided on identifying hazardous the material in-volved, using protective clothing, isolating the accident scene, and managing leaks and fires.

A text is included with the program with supplemental information.
