Trucking Hazardous Materials
- DVD (VHS avail.)
Teaches truckers and loading dock personnel how to recognize and handle hazardous materials.

Price: $295.00

Because of the large number of hazardous chemicals used in modern industrial processes, thousands of hazmat shipments are on public roadways every year. On any given highway, the threat of a serious accident is always present. Shipments of hazardous materials in the US are subject to a specific set of rules published and enforced by the US Department of Transportation. Regulations include clearly defined training requirements, which detail the training that employees who handle hazardous materials must undergo. The purpose of the training is to increase awareness of safety considerations, resulting in fewer accidents during the loading, unloading, storage and transportation of hazardous materials.

“Trucking Hazardous Materials” is designed to assist organizations in complying with the regulations set forth by DOT (49 CFR 172-177), and to improve hazardous materials safety programs. The package includes a 23-minute video and an accompanying Leader’s Guide, which together provide at least four hours of training as well as all required tests (with answers) and certification forms. The video describes the nature and properties of hazardous materials as defined by the nine DOT hazard classes, and tells how to use labels, placards and markings to identify hazmat containers. Other topics covered include filling out shipping papers properly, using the DOT hazmat tables, correct loading and unloading procedures, and packing groups. Drivers are also taught how to react safely in the event of an unexpected spill or leak in order to best protect themselves, the community and the environment. The companion 52- page Leader’s Guide includes pre- and postseminar tests, ideas for classroom activities to reinforce the above-mentioned training topics, and certification forms appropriate for recordkeeping, as required by the DOT. An outline of the script narration is also included for reference purposes.
