An instructional resource that combines broadcast quality media, pictorial workbooks and computer-based training now provides vessel operators with a cost-effective means of providing BST refresher training as required by the International Safety Management (ISM) and Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW) codes. Each audio-visual training course consists of a DVD and companion workbook covering the requirements established by Table VI of the STCW Code. Photographed aboard vessels ranging from sea-going tugs and fishing vessels to oil tankers and container ships, each module incorporates dramatic emergency scenarios and clearly illustrated response procedures.
The Interactive Training, Drilling & Assessment CD offers a mechanism for measuring and certificating crew comprehension of the subject matter and logging all drilling, training and assessment (testing) events that occur aboard the vessel. Crew members log onto the Test component of the software for assessment and certification of their competency in the four BST subject areas. Each test consists of 20 questions generated in random order to minimize test fraud. Each question includes a memory-enhancing video clip intended to boost content retention and enhance test performance. The software scores and certificates each test.
Vessel managers log onto the secure Training & Drilling Administrator or Test Administrator components of the software to log training and drilling events, maintain crewmember records, review crewmember test performance and generate real time reports in response to audits by in-house or external authorities.
